The Scenario Editor is an exciting tool that allows an instructor to structure the Financial Accounting simulation to fit their teaching needs. It is located in the
Instructor Zone.
There are a number of options with this tool, so let's look at them.
Starting Off
- Select the Scenario editor in the Instructor tools
- Click on Create New and then name your Scenario and choose a default scenario to base it on. If this is your first time, you'll see just a default English or French option. Once your scenario is created, you can then use that as a basis for a new one if desired.
- After you click Create, you'll see your Scenario listed in the Scenario editor main screen.
- Clicking on its name will open it, and now you can begin structuring it how you wish.
Modules - Structure
Modifying modules is entirely up to you. So rather than tell you what to do, I'll tell you what's possible.
Modules are sections of the simulation that contain context and a list of financial statements for students to complete.
You can add or remove modules, change the order they occur in the simulation and rename them.
Careful when deleting a module as you will lose the summary information in it.
Modules - Content
When inside a module, there are two main functions you can perform.
- Edit the summary text for that particular module. You may wish to add or remove text to this section.
- Select which statements you want to appear in this section for the student, by clicking on the "Select statements" button.
This will bring up a list of all the statements available in the simulation.
You can see which statements are currently in the module you are editing, as they will have a tick next to them:
You can also use the drop down arrow to show what that statement's content is:
The category column shows which module that statement is currently in. However, you can add any statement to the module you are currently editing by selecting it. This will remove that statement from its previous module and add it to the current one.
Finishing Up
- Once happy with all your changes, go back to the main page of the Scenario editor in the Instructor Zone
- Highlight the Scenario you have created by clicking on it (not its name)
- While highlighted, click on the "Actions" button and then on the drop down menu, click "Publish" to finalize your changes:
Publishing a Scenario means that it is ready to be added to a Planner and no more structural changes can occur.
