How to Use Text-to-Speech (TTS) Tools with Praxar Simulations
This article is intended for students.
This article applies to all Praxar simulations.
While Praxar simulations don’t currently include built-in text-to-speech (TTS) features, you can easily enable this functionality using free, external tools available on your computer or browser.
TTS can make the simulation experience more accessible by allowing students to listen to scenario descriptions, reports, and instructions instead of reading them on screen.
Why Use TTS?
Text-to-Speech tools can help:
-
Support students with reading or visual challenges.
-
Improve comprehension for auditory learners.
-
Reduce eye strain during longer sessions.
2. How to Enable TTS
Below are some simple ways to activate TTS based on your preferred device or browser:
On Windows
-
Use the built-in Microsoft Narrator tool (press Ctrl + Windows + Enter to start).
In Microsoft Edge, you can use the Read Aloud feature:
-
Right-click anywhere on a simulation page.
-
Select Read Aloud.
-
Choose a voice and speed as needed.
On macOS
Enable Speak Selection:
-
Go to System Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content.
-
Turn on Speak Selection.
-
Highlight any text in the simulation and press the designated shortcut (usually Option + Esc).
In Google Chrome
Install a browser extension such as:
-
Once installed, highlight the text you want read aloud and click the TTS icon.
3. Tips for Best Results
Use TTS primarily for text-heavy pages like Tutorials.
-
Avoid running it on charts or tables, as the spoken output can be confusing.
-
Students can adjust reading speed and voice settings to match their preferences.
