Team version versus solo version: this article presents all the features of the team version. Some features may not be available in the solo version.
Team performance and Simulate button
- Simulate button: This button enables you to manually close a round (year) of the simulation, simulate the market and generate the results. Instructors usually use this button when demonstrating the simulation to students in the classroom. If you run the simulation manually using this button, you do not need to enter a date for that round in My Calendar or in The Planner.
- Team Performance: This panel provides an overview of how each team is performing. It presents a ranking of the companies based on the main performance indicator for each department.
- Year (round) selection: The most recent round is presented by default. To view the results from previous rounds, simply select the appropriate year in the upper right corner of the panel.
- Exporting results: You can download the records of the decisions or performance of the teams into an Excel file. If you would like to print these reports, use the print function in Excel.
-
Team tools:
There are several tools available that allow instructors to intercede with the teams.
- Change company name: Once the students have chosen a name for their company, they can no longer change it. However, instructors can do so at any time using this menu.
- Help or penalize a team: The instructor can add or subtract an amount from a team’s income statement at any time. This amount will appear as an “extraordinary item” during the next round of the simulation. Instructors usually use this feature to help companies in difficulty, or to reward or penalize certain classroom behaviours.
- Diagnosis and consistency: Instructors can use this report to quickly diagnose the strengths and weaknesses of a particular team’s decisions.
Team Results and Instructor Documents
- Team Results: The Team Results panel compares the financial statements from all the companies in a single easy-to-read file. The results for each company appear in a separate column. This provides a detailed overview of the performance of the companies. You can download these reports to an Excel file. If you would like to print the results, use the print function in Excel.
- Instructor Documents: This section offers various files that can be used to prepare for the simulation or to support classroom instruction. Among other items, there is a PowerPoint introduction to the simulation.
Game Scenario
The simulation follows a programmed game scenario covering a test year and up to 10 years in the life of the students’ companies. The scenario is presented to the students by the Chair of the Board over the course of the simulation. The scenario text is reproduced on this page to help you prepare for class. This text is followed by the change in market demand that has been programmed for the next year compared to the previous year. This information is not communicated to students.
You can modify the anticipated demand by sliding the tab to the left or right. Plan any such modifications carefully, as too great a change can have a dramatic impact on the success of your students’ companies.
Show advice, Language settings and Analysis of industry
- Test year: By default students start the Simulation with a Test Year. If desired by the Instructor, this can be skipped and students can begin in Year 1.
- Practice Zone: The Practice Zone allows students to become familiar with the simulation before it begins. Each participant has their own version of the software that they can explore and even play by measuring themselves against the computer.
- Show advice: By default, students have access to the advice provided by their company’s four top managers. You may choose to hide this advice if you believe it is no longer relevant for your students. The change takes effect immediately. You can, however, reverse this decision later.
- Analysis of industry : By default, students have access to industry analysis. You can disable access to this document if you think it is required. The change takes effect immediately. You can, however, reverse this decision later.
- Language settings: By default, each student can choose the language in which the simulation is displayed (English or French o Spanish). You can choose to restrict the language used if your course objectives so require.
- Diagnosis and Consistency: Each simulation round, Praxar publishes a report that analyzes the quality of a team's decisions in relation to its strategy. By default, students can access this report.
World Ranking
The World Ranking classifies all the companies based on their share value for the previous year. You can also view the Overall Ranking page, which has various options you can use to sort the data by different criteria.
