The Preparation Phase

The Preparation Phase

Info
This article is intended for instructors.

Notes
This article is for Entrepreneurship, Management and Marketing simulations.

The preparation section is divided into two options: the Tutorials and the Practice Zone. In order to encourage students to better prepare themselves, it is strongly recommended to award points for the completion of these steps.

Tutorials explain all of the key concepts covered by the simulation. They introduce the students to their team of virtual managers. This is the first section students will access after registering.  There are five multiple-choice questions after each tutorial.  For each question, students receive 5 points if they choose the right answer on the first try, 4 points if they choose it on the second try, and so on. They can thus earn up to 25 points per tutorial.

Students complete the tutorials individually, so it is not necessary to form teams at this stage. (Team selection will only be necessary when starting the Simulation section.)

You can monitor your students’ progress as they complete the tutorials by clicking on the ACCESS button in the PREPARATION panel. If any students are not on this list, it is because they have not yet registered for the simulation.

Here are the results of the Tutorials and how they appear in the instructor portal:

  1. Summary: Number of participants who have started the preparation phase and the number of participants who have completed the preparation phase.
  2. List: List of all students registered for the simulation. Depending on your needs, you can sort the information by the data in any of the columns.
  3. Results: Each row contains the results for one student. A green checkmark appears to the right of the results line when the participant has completed the preparation phase. Students can review their answers, but they cannot change their first choice.
  4. Printing and exporting: You can print the results by clicking on the printer icon. To export the results to an Excel file, simply click on the download icon. The Excel report also shows the completion date for each tutorial.

Practice Zone allows students to play the simulation on their own before the real simulation begins. Here they can familiarize themselves with the platform and learn how to play the game. Instructors can specify the minimum number of years that students must complete.

*This feature is managed in the Simulation Tile of the instructor portal or and the Planner.

Info
The Practice Zone appears by default in the student portal. If you want to block this access, consult the article Scheduling a deadline for the completion of the Tutorials and/or the Practice Zone

Alert
**In order to avoid confusion between the Practice Zone and the real simulation, we recommended deactivating the Practice Zone when the simulation starts and to disable the Simulation section when students are doing the Preparation section.
