How to use eCoursebook+

Info
This article is intended for participants.

eCoursebook+ is an interactive coursebook that accompanies the simulation. It contains the chapters, business cases and quizzes selected by the instructor, and it can be read on screen or listened to in audiobook format.

This article gives a quick overview of how to access eCoursebook+ and how to find your way around it. The best way to master it is to open it and explore it.

To access eCoursebook+:

  1. Log in to your profile on www.praxar.com.
  2. On the simulation tile, click on the "eCoursebook+" button, next to the other buttons (Tutorials, Practice Zone, Simulation, Evaluation).

Notes
Note: The "eCoursebook+" button only appears if the instructor uses the coursebook for the group.

The Course Map

The Course Map is the home page of eCoursebook+ and the recommended starting point. It lists the content in the order it is meant to be covered: parts, then chapters, then the items inside each chapter (text, business cases and quizzes).

For each item, the map shows:
  • An estimated time, which gives an approximation of how long the item takes to complete.
  • A completion indicator, which turns green once the item is done.
  • A counter on each chapter and each part (for example 1/3), which shows how many items have been completed.

The overall Your Progress percentage is displayed at the top of the left menu and is updated as work progresses.

Notes
Note: The Course Map reflects the selection made by the instructor. The chapters, cases and quizzes displayed depend on what the instructor chose for the group, so the map may not contain the full content of the book.

The left menu gives direct access to the different types of content:

  • Chapters: the full text of the chapters included in the course.
  • Audio Lessons: the audio version of the chapters when the instructor makes it available.
  • Key Terms: the important concepts and definitions.

Reading or listening

The chapter text can be read on screen, and it can also be listened to in audiobook format when the instructor enables that option. Listening to a chapter counts as completing it, in the same way as reading it.

To adjust the reading experience, click on the "Reader Settings" button in the top right corner. The appearance can be switched between Light and Dark, and the font size and the line spacing can be adjusted.

Business cases and quizzes

Business cases are worked on either in teams or individually. This is decided by the instructor when the course is configured, and the mode is indicated on the case itself.

Quizzes are completed directly in the coursebook, and the results are recorded in the results section.

How progress is tracked

Activity in eCoursebook+ is recorded automatically and is visible to the instructor in the reports, results and assessment sections.

  • For the text, the time spent on each page is estimated by detecting mouse micro-movements while reading.
  • For the audio, the system detects whether a lesson has been listened to in full.

In other words, both reading and listening are taken into account, and the instructor can see how the content was covered.

Notes
Note: Since the reading time is estimated from activity on the page, leaving a chapter open in an inactive tab does not count as reading it. Working through the content normally is the reliable way to record progress.
