Getting started with eCoursebook+

Info
This article is intended for instructors.

eCoursebook+ is an interactive coursebook that you assemble yourself: you choose the chapters, cases and quizzes your students will work with, and the coursebook adapts to that selection. It is a standalone product, with no link to the simulation.

The content is rich enough that this article does not describe every function. The best way to master eCoursebook+ is to open it and explore it. What follows is a quick overview of how to access it, what you control, and what your students see.

How to access eCoursebook+

  1. Access your profile on www.praxar.com, go to Groups and click on the "Access" button of the corresponding group.
  2. Select the Summary tab. The eCoursebook+ card appears at the top of the page.
  3. Click on the "Access" button of the card to open the coursebook.

Finding your way around

Once the coursebook is open, the left navigation panel is split into two parts:

  • Student: Chapters, Audio Lessons and Key Terms. This is exactly what your participants see.
  • Instructor: the same three sections, plus Teaching Assets and Class Results.

Building your course in the Instructor Studio

The Instructor Studio button at the top of the page opens the configuration area. Its Course Builder tab is where you decide what is included in the course.

  1. Use the toggle at the left of each chapter to include it in the course or leave it out. The counter at the top right of the panel shows how many chapters are currently included.
  2. In the Content column, click on an item to include or exclude it. Each chapter offers its text, up to two business cases, and a quiz when one is available.
  3. For each case, use the adjacent toggle to decide whether it is solved individually or in teams.
  4. Click on the speaker icon next to a chapter's text to offer it in audiobook format, so participants can listen instead of reading.

As you make your selections, the Current Selection bar at the top updates the estimated time for text, cases, quizzes and the total. This gives you a quick approximation of the workload you are assigning. Times are estimates and will vary from one participant to another.

Teaching assets

The Teaching Assets section of the Instructor navigation gathers the material you use to run your class: chapter summaries, discussion questions to use with your students, cases, learning outcomes and quizzes. Assets are organized by chapter, and a "Present" button lets you display an asset directly in class.

The Reader Settings button, at the top right of the page, adjusts the reading experience: light or dark appearance, font size and line spacing.

Tracking your participants

eCoursebook+ records how your students work through the material:

  • Reading: micro-movements of the mouse are detected while the participant reads, which gives an approximate time spent on each page.
  • Audio: the system detects whether an audio lesson was fully listened to, for example one full minute of listening.

This information feeds the Class Results section, along with your reports and assessment material.

What your participants see

Participants land on the same Course Map, limited to the content you included. A progress bar at the top left of their navigation panel shows their completion percentage, and each part and chapter displays its own counter (for example 1/3) along with the estimated time. Completed items are marked with a green check.

Important points

AlertThere is no time restriction on eCoursebook+. As soon as you use it, it is available to your participants. It does not follow the rounds or the deadlines of the simulation.

AlertCurrent limitations. There is no direct link yet between eCoursebook+ and Engagement or the Simulation Grading Tool. The results menu is available per student inside the coursebook, but results cannot be exported to Excel for now. Both are planned for a future update, very soon.
