Controlling Participant Progress (Solo Version)

Controlling Participant Progress (Solo Version)

Info
This article is intended for instructors.

Notes
This article applies to the Solo version of Praxar's Kayak, Golf, and Video game simulations.

In the Solo version, each student controls their own Simulate Year button. This means they can move from one round to the next at their own pace unless you choose to control it.

Key points

You can control when students are allowed to simulate a round
You cannot set a deadline by which they must finish a round

The Planner allows you to unlock rounds, not force completion by a certain date.

What you can control

Using the Planner, you can:

  1. Choose when the simulation becomes available

  2. Control when each new round (Year) becomes unlocked

If a round is locked, students will see the Simulate button but will not be able to use it until the date/time you set.

Setting up pacing control

  1. Log in to your instructor portal at https://www.praxar.com/pr/signin

  2. Go to Groups and click Access for the correct course

  3. Open the Planner tab

  4. In Planner Settings > Simulation, enter a Date Available for each year you want to control

Example:

  • Year 1 unlocked on October 15 at 8am

  • Year 2 unlocked on October 22 at 8am

  • No date set for Year 3 → students may simulate Year 3 whenever they reach it

If no dates are set at all, students can complete all 10 rounds immediately.

Understanding the Simulate button

  • The Simulate button is always visible.

  • When a round is locked, clicking it will simply show that it’s unavailable until the scheduled date.

  • When the date/time arrives, the button becomes active.

This allows you to slow students down if you want them to take more time to analyze their results before moving forward.

Letting students progress freely

If you prefer a fully self-paced setup, leave all Date Available fields blank. Students will be able to simulate any round at any time, without pacing restrictions.

Warning
Please note: whether or not you choose to control student progression, you must still unlock the Simulation section in the Planner for students to access it.
