Accounting Cycle: The badge and point system

Accounting Cycle: The badge and point system

This article is intended for Students

Badges and Points are earned by students on their journey in the Accounting Cycle Simulation. They are systems designed to motivate students to perform the best they can, as well as providing instructors with a clear method of grading students if they are so inclined, or even simply as a way to check on their student's progress and ability.

Here is a breakdown of what Badges and Points are and how they are earned.

Badges

These are essentially items that list achievements of which a student has obtained. There are four types of badges that can be obtained:

  • Badge of Performance - Obtained for completing specific tasks related to Accounting. For example, completing a section without errors.
  • Badge of Knowledge - Obtained when completing tasks that demonstrate knowledge of the topic as well as using assistance in the simulation. For example, replay a mini-game.
  • Badge of Accomplishment - Earned when completing specific actions related to the simulation and features available. For example, accessing the References menu.
  • Badge of Completion - Earned when the user unlocks specific rewards. For example, unlock all knowledge badges.

Points

These are numeric values awarded for performing the tasks set out for the student. Each primary task has a point value associated with it and completing that task with no errors will award the student with the maximum amount of points for that task. Points will be lost if there are errors, for example, if making mistakes when recording information from a source document into a journal.
